I admit even now that by it's very nature, this is probably an exercise in futility, (i.e. even before I commence listing 'em). However, as I'm sure many of you similar free spirits will understand, I do it in the spirit of: 'what-the-heck -- let's have some fun anyway!' --

Need to find out the correct Time world-wide?

These are five of my all-time favourite Soul tracks:
- Marvin's classic 'All The Way 'Round', from 1976's 'I Want You'. In fact, the entire album is an acknowledged classic!
- D'Angelo's 'Send It On', from his sphomore set 'Voodoo'
- Blackstreet's much-overlooked 'Never Gonna Let You Go', from 1996's 'Another Level'
- D'Angelo and Erykah Badu's joint rendition of Marvin's 'Precious Love', from the 1999 tribute album to Marvin: 'Marvin is 60'
- Marvin's 'I Want You', from the classic 1976 album of the same name.
These are five of my all-time favourite Funk tracks:
- James Brown's 'Funky President (People It's Bad)'
- James Brown's 'The Payback'
- Don Blackman's one and only self-titled album, released in '82. Cookin!
- D'Angelo's 'Chicken Grease', from the 'Voodoo' album
- Prince's classic 'Sign of The Times', from the album of the same name
These are just TEN! of my all-time favourite Nu Jack Swing/Funk tracks: (Way too much competition for spots here really, but I'll try anyway)
- GUY's 'Wanna Get Wit U'
- GUY's 'My Fantasy'
- Bubba's awesome party jam 'Get Down', (from his third solo album, 2000's 'Never Too Late'). Deadly!
- Bubba's Teddy Riley produced 'I Like Your Style'
- Blackstreet's 'I Like The Way U Work' - (the 12" Remix)
- Blackstreet's much overlooked 'Yo Love', from the 'Finally' album.
- Michael Jackson's 'Remember The Time', from the 'Dangerous' album. Classic Teddy Riley production in full flow!
- Bell Biv DeVoe's incendiary jam Do Me! (Mental Mix), from the 'WBBD-BootCity Remix' album
- Hi-Five's killer choon 'I Just Can't Handle It' (The Teddy Riley 12" Remix). Slamin'
- Blackstreet's classic 'Baby Be Mine' (Original Vocal Mix), featuring Joe Stonestreet. Blazin'!
These are five of my all-time favourite Two Step tracks:
- Patrice Rushen's 'To Each His Own'
- Tom Tom Club's cult tune:'bbb', covered by Mariah on her hit record 'Fantasy'
- Omar's Keep Steppin', from his 1994 set: 'For Pleasure'. Dontcha just love this guy, when he gets into a 'groove'???
- The Universal Robot Band's Classic 'Barely Breakin Even'.
- Juliet Roberts' 'It's Over'. Rare Two Step at it's best!

- Incognito's 'Without You', from 'beneath the surface'
- D'Angelo's 'Brown Sugar', from his debut set 'Brown Sugar'
- Check this out: Jill Scott's entire 'Who Is Jill Scott: Words & Sounds Vol. 1'debut album. Astoundingly good!
These are five of my all-time favourite Hip Hop tracks:
- A Tribe Called Quest's 'Can I Kick It'
- Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek's 'Train of Thought'. AWESOME!
- Most of the stuff ever released by The Roots crew! Black Thought, Dice Raw, etc Check out their 'Live' set from '99 entitled: 'The Roots Come Alive' -- Live Double CD. Ssssssmokin'
- Common's incendiary jams 'Heat' and 'Cold-Blooded'. What can I say???
- The Roots' 'The Notic', especially as featured on their recent Live Double CD!
These are five of my all-time favourite Jazz choons:
- Miles' ground-breaking 'Kind Of Blue' album. (Yeah, I know I'm cheating here!)
- Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme'. (The version that lasts 47 minutes!!!)
- Herbie and his HeadHunters' 'Watermelon Man'
- Grover's classic 'Mister Magic'
- Dave Brubeck's 'Take 5'. Simply majestic!
I've decided to include an 'honorary' Fela Anikulapo Kuti section here, listing several of my favourite Afro-beat classics:
- Lady
- Roforofo Fight
- Kalakuta Show
- Original Sufferhead
- Colonial Mentality
- Beast of No Nation
- Zombie
- ITT
- Shuffrin' and Shmilin'
- Overtake Don Overtake Overtake (ODOO)

Well, there you go!
While making my choices, (some controversial, I agree), I found that some of the genres overlap, such as Rare Groove and Nu Classic Soul...
Do send in your own preferred all-time lists and we can see how our lists compare...just for the fun of it, of course...not that I'm necessarily going to change my mine for anybody and I wouldn't expect you to change yours either.
What's interesting here is that we're referring to the lists as 'our own personal choices' and not necessarily 'the best' out there, as some like to claim when they pick their favourite choons. :) :)
